featuring the 1964-65 HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO dancers

♦ ♦ ♦    JUNE  FAIRCHILD   ♦ ♦ ♦

JUNE FAIRCHILD is a stunning beauty who is featured in many of the HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO videos on YouTube.  At 5' 6" with blue eyes and brown hair she is still turning heads after more than four decades  since her GAZZARRI DANCER days.  She was born as JUNE E. WILSON and attended Aviation High School in Redondo Beach, California where she was prom queen and graduated in 1964.

She was discovered by HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO producer AL BURTON while dancing at Gazzarri's nightclub in 1965.  AL found his GAZZARRI DANCERS by frequenting the L.A. clubs and picking the prettiest and best dancers for a chance to be a dancer on the show.  Needless to say, JUNE was hired immediately and stayed with the show until the last episode.  Recognisable as the girl with the bangs and the great dance moves JUNE is a favorite on this website.  During her time on the show she invented a new dance which she named the "statue dance".  You can see it performed on the DUANE EDDY "Rebel Rouser" and JACKIE & GAYLE "That's How It Goes" videos on YouTube.  LIFE MAGAZINE did a piece on the go-go dancer craze of the mid-60's and JUNE is featured in a solo shot doing a wild watusi at Gazzarri's.  This was also on the same lucky evening that AL found and hired her.  You can find this photo in the May 21, 1965 issue of LIFE.

After HOLLYWOOD A GO -GO wrapped up production in early 1966 JUNE and fellow dancer GWEN SELVAGE moved on to PLAYBOY AFTER DARK.  This proved to be an entry into bigger and better roles as JUNE went on to appear in more than a dozen movies between 1967 and 1978.  This is where JUNE WILSON became JUNE FAIRCHILD.  When applying for her Screen Actors Guild card she found that there was already a June Wilson so another name, Fairchild, was suggested by DANNY HUTTON of THREE DOG NIGHT who was her boyfriend at the time.  JUNE then returned the favor.  DANNY, along with CORY WELLS and CHUCK NEGRON, were the three lead vocalists who were looking to put a band together in late 1967.  While looking for a name for their band, JUNE volunteered that she had read a magazine article on how Australian aborigines sleep with their dingo dogs for warmth.  The coldest night in the Australian outback, the article said, was called a "three dog night".  Thus the band was named.

The roles that JUNE is most remembered for are as Sonny Swangle in 1971's PRETTY MAIDS ALL IN A ROW opposite ROCK HUDSON and as the "Ajax Lady" in the 1978 classic UP IN SMOKE.  JUNE told me that she put the whole scene together in 15 minutes and basically ad-libbed it.  You can view this clip on the following link  http://www.metacafe.com/watch/334546/ajax_girl/  . She has also appeared opposite CLINT EASTWOOD and BEAU BRIDGES, amongst others.  She has starred in movies directed by such notables as ROGER VADIM and JACK NICHOLSON.

Besides HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO and PLAYBOY AFTER DARK   JUNE has also appeared on several other television shows.  She appeared on "The Chaperone" episode of THE MONKEES TV show in 1966.  She has also been on THE DICK CAVETT SHOW (ABC), I SPY (NBC), and NEVER TOO YOUNG (CBS).

One of the perks of working as a GAZZARRI DANCER was that JUNE got to meet an enviable list of stars from the 60's music scene.  Every week of HOLLYWOOD A GO-GO presented new opportunities to meet the musical guests appearing on the show.  One of her favorite memories is of MICK JAGGER waving goodbye to her as the ROLLING STONES exited the KHJ-TV studios after their sole appearance on the show in 1965.  There are photos below of JUNE with GENE CLARK of the BYRDS and BARRY McGUIRE.  The photo with GENE was taken outside of the KHJ-TV studios after a 1965 appearance by the BYRDS on the show.  The photo with BARRY McGUIRE was taken at The Trip nightclub during a performance of "Eve of Destruction".  You also will find JUNE posing on KIM FOWLEY'S "Born To Be Wild" 1968 album cover.

JUNE had earned a very comfortable life for herself with a house on Laurel Canyon Drive in Hollywood Hills
before the house accidentally burned down.  Most of the photos here on her page are lucky survivors from that fire.  After some very tough years, which are well documented in the L.A. TIMES, JUNE got her life back on track and is involved in several worthwhile projects including helping the homeless.  She currently lives in Los Angeles.  She is also in line to reappear in a possible UP IN SMOKE sequel and she has finished writing a tell-all autobiography of her life.  Once this book is published this website will have further information on when and where you can obtain a copy.

Another portrait of a very photogenic JUNE WILSON taken at her home in 1964.

A little known fact about JUNE is that she is a direct descendant of famous inventor Samuel Morse on her maternal side.   He was her great, great, great grandfather.
